Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Issues of the Mineral Resource Sector in Mongolia

Academic Scope

In recent years, the production and impact of Mongolia’s mineral resources sector have expanded rapidly, leading to evolving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues that are increasingly discussed both domestically and internationally. At the same time, the activities of domestic and foreign investors, as well as companies involved in technology, exploration, mining, and processing, have become clearly dependent on ESG considerations.
This session will address the environmental, social, and governance challenges facing Mongolia’s mineral resources sector and aims to present these issues to conference participants, including mining professionals, investors, researchers, and representatives from government and civil society.
Within the framework of these three themes, the session will organize sub-panel discussions. It is planned to issue an open call, based on the submitted presentations and abstracts, to define the three main topics and additional themes, and to organize the sub-sessions accordingly. In addition to the open call, selected researchers and scholars will be invited to participate.
Keynote presentations for the session will be delivered by invited professors from the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology, and the University of Queensland in Australia.
In addition to academic researchers and students, representatives from government institutions, civil society organizations, professional associations, and companies are expected to participate in the session.
