Sub-session description

Academic Scope

This sub-session focuses on advancing geoscience education, professional capacity building, and innovation as key enablers of sustainable mineral resource development. As the resource sector undergoes rapid transformation driven by technological advances, environmental challenges, and evolving workforce demands, there is an increasing need for modern education systems and lifelong learning opportunities to prepare future professionals for complex, interdisciplinary challenges.

The sub-session aims to provide a platform for sharing experiences, research findings, and best practices related to geoscience education, workforce development, and knowledge transfer. It encourages discussions on curriculum modernization, competency-based learning, digital education, laboratory and field training, and innovative teaching methodologies that enhance both academic quality and professional readiness.

Contributions are invited on capacity-building initiatives, industry–academia partnerships, professional training programs, and international cooperation frameworks that strengthen human resources in geology, mining, petroleum, geospatial sciences, and related disciplines. The session also welcomes studies on science communication, public geoscience literacy, and the role of education in supporting evidence-based resource governance and sustainable development.

Particular emphasis is placed on emerging educational technologies, digital learning environments, analytical laboratory training, and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge science, engineering, policy, and society. By bringing together educators, researchers, students, industry representatives, and policymakers, this sub-session seeks to foster innovation in learning systems and contribute to developing a skilled, adaptable, and future-ready geoscience workforce.
