Academic Scope

The Policy Roundtable: Mining, Environment & Society is a special dialogue session designed to facilitate constructive discussion among policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, civil society organizations, and local stakeholders on the future of sustainable mineral resource development.

As mining activities increasingly intersect with environmental protection, community well-being, economic development, and climate-related challenges, effective stakeholder engagement and evidence-based policymaking have become essential. This special session provides a neutral platform for exchanging perspectives, identifying common challenges, and exploring practical solutions that balance resource development with environmental and social responsibilities.

Unlike conventional academic sessions, the roundtable emphasizes interactive dialogue, policy exchange, and stakeholder participation. Discussions will focus on emerging policy issues, governance challenges, public expectations, and opportunities for strengthening cooperation among government, industry, academia, and communities.

The sub-session welcomes contributions that offer policy insights, lessons learned, and practical experiences on mining governance, environmental management, social impacts, community engagement, and sustainable development. Participants are encouraged to share perspectives that can contribute to more transparent, inclusive, and resilient resource governance systems.

By fostering open and informed dialogue, this special session aims to strengthen mutual understanding and support the development of policies and partnerships that promote responsible mineral resource development in Mongolia and beyond.
