Regional Geology, Tectonics, Stratigraphy & Paleontology

Geo Systems & Mineral Science — Fundamental geoscience, regional geology, mineral science, economic geology, and geophysics.

Sub-session description

Academic Scope

This sub-session focuses on the fundamental geological processes that shape the Earth's crust and control the evolution of continents, sedimentary basins, and tectonic systems. It provides a platform for presenting new research on regional geology, tectonic evolution, stratigraphy, paleontology, and Earth history, with particular emphasis on Mongolia, Central Asia, and comparable geological regions worldwide.
The sub-session welcomes contributions that improve our understanding of crustal growth, basin development, sedimentary environments, structural evolution, and the geological record preserved in rocks and fossils. Studies addressing plate tectonic processes, terrane accretion, mountain building, basin analysis, paleogeography, and paleoclimate reconstruction are particularly encouraged.
Research utilizing modern approaches such as geochronology, sedimentology, structural analysis, paleontological investigations, stratigraphic correlation, and integrated geological modeling is highly welcome. Contributions that combine field observations with laboratory analyses and digital geological datasets are also encouraged.
By integrating tectonic, stratigraphic, and paleontological perspectives, this sub-session aims to advance our understanding of Earth's geological evolution and provide a scientific framework for regional geological interpretation, natural resource assessment, and future geoscience research.
