Geophysics & Subsurface Imaging

Geo Systems & Mineral Science — Fundamental geoscience, regional geology, mineral science, economic geology, and geophysics.

Sub-session description

Academic Scope

This sub-session focuses on the application of geophysical methods and subsurface imaging technologies to investigate the structure, properties, and dynamic processes of the Earth's interior. It provides a platform for presenting advances in geophysical exploration, Earth imaging, and integrated subsurface characterization that support geological research, mineral exploration, energy development, environmental studies, and geohazard assessment.
The sub-session welcomes contributions covering a wide range of geophysical techniques, including seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical, electromagnetic, radiometric, and borehole geophysics. Studies utilizing geophysical datasets to characterize geological structures, lithological variations, tectonic features, and mineralized systems are particularly encouraged.
Research addressing geophysical data processing, inversion, modeling, and interpretation is highly welcome, especially where multiple datasets are integrated to improve understanding of complex subsurface systems. Contributions applying emerging technologies, advanced computational methods, machine learning, and integrated geoscientific workflows to geophysical investigations are also encouraged.
The sub-session further promotes the use of geophysical methods for resource exploration, groundwater assessment, environmental monitoring, engineering investigations, and geodynamic studies. By advancing innovative approaches to Earth imaging and subsurface characterization, this sub-session aims to strengthen understanding of geological systems and support sustainable resource development and Earth science research.

Exploration and applied geophysics Seismic reflection, refraction, and Earth imaging Gravity, magnetic, and radiometric methods Electrical and electromagnetic geophysics Borehole and well-logging geophysics Geophysical inversion and numerical modeling Integrated geophysical interpretation Geophysics for mineral and energy exploration Groundwater and environmental geophysics Machine learning and AI applications in geophysics
