Green Mining

Green and Safe Mining — Sustainable mining practices, environmental management, and operational safety.

Sub-session description

Academic Scope

This sub-session focuses on innovative technologies, practices, and management approaches that promote environmentally responsible and sustainable mining. As the global mining industry faces increasing expectations for environmental stewardship, resource efficiency, and climate responsibility, green mining has become a key pathway toward sustainable mineral resource development.
The sub-session welcomes contributions on eco-friendly mining methods that minimize environmental impacts while maintaining operational efficiency and resource recovery. Particular attention is given to advanced mining technologies, including backfill mining, paste backfill systems, low-impact extraction methods, and integrated approaches that reduce land disturbance and waste generation.
Research on mining waste management, tailings reuse, waste rock utilization, and circular economy practices is strongly encouraged. The session also highlights mine closure planning, ecological restoration, land reclamation, biodiversity conservation, and post-mining landscape rehabilitation.
In addition, contributions addressing clean mining technologies, energy conservation, greenhouse gas reduction, renewable energy integration, and carbon management in mining operations are welcomed. By bringing together researchers, engineers, industry practitioners, and policymakers, this sub-session aims to advance practical, innovative solutions that support the transition to greener, safer, and more sustainable mining systems.
