Safe Mining

Green and Safe Mining — Sustainable mining practices, environmental management, and operational safety.

Sub-session description

Academic Scope

This sub-session focuses on technologies, methodologies, and management practices that improve safety and risk control throughout mining operations. As mining activities move toward deeper, larger, and more complex environments, ensuring the stability of mining structures and protecting worker safety have become critical challenges for the industry.

The sub-session welcomes contributions addressing the monitoring, prediction, and prevention of mining-related hazards, including roof collapse, sidewall failure, goaf instability, rock bursts, ground deformation, and other geotechnical risks. Particular emphasis is placed on early warning systems, hazard assessment, and integrated risk management approaches that enhance operational safety and resilience.

Research related to mine engineering stability, including underground support systems, slope stability analysis, rock reinforcement technologies, and geomechanical monitoring, is strongly encouraged. The session also highlights occupational health and safety in underground and surface mining environments, including worker condition monitoring, safety management systems, emergency response planning, and human-factor considerations.

In addition, contributions on intelligent and digital technologies for safe mining are welcome, including IoT-based monitoring, sensor networks, automation, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and real-time decision-support systems. By integrating engineering, safety management, and emerging technologies, this sub-session aims to promote safer, more resilient, and technologically advanced mining operations.
